Nothing wrong with reporting on a train crash. And the bad news on the Millennium Development Goals has gotten a little attention lately. But what is the ratio of preventable deaths to column inches (or however we measure media attention these days) between sensational accidents and the massive toll of suffering and death from preventable causes? Our sensitivities must be shaped by these ratios in ways we don’t recognize.
